Learn me some new- MAYA
Time off work equals restless me. Friends and I have taken the initiative to learn us some new skills, and 3d software has always been lurking around the corner.
So we have a couch-class consisting of a few of us getting together and helping each other out. First lesson, Modelling.

Lets see if this makes sense:
My name is May, learning Maya, I like listening to M.I.A, who has a song called PAPER PLANES, I JUST MODELLED A PLANE IN MAYA! WHOOOOA!

CONCRETE JUNGLE- contest- fail
Hi friends,
I entered a competition for a Skate board DVD package to be called 'CONCRETE JUNGLE', not too long ago posted on Animation community site, MYTOONS.com.
My entry made semi's which is pretty rad, but i just got word that i did not make finals. Contrats to the other finalists and best of luck.
It was suggested by a friend that i could have contrasted the foreground characters and the BG characters abit more. Feel free to rip into it...I insist!
Check out the finalists here:
Next time competition....next time (grasping hand)

MAYHEM x DANNY TREJO
With the time off at hand, i decided to take up a screen printing course (something i've always wanted to do).
I would like to present the OH-FO-SHO, MAYHEM x DANNY TREJO Tee.
For those of you that might not recognize the character on fabric, Danny Trejo is typically seen as the latin, tatooed, baddass, looking mofo's onscreen(tv/movies). Most recently he starred as 'Machette', in one of Rob Rodriguez fake trailers for 'Planet Terror'.
I hear he's actully a really nice guy in real life.

Simona Wong x Mayhem
I had first met Simona Wong a couple of years ago. We were both young, i was arrogant, she was nieve. We were different people, but we both knew that we were creatives at heart.
Lifes journey continued for the both of us. Different places, different faces, same passionate drive.
A few months back when i was in Sydney, i was suprised when friend Simona Wong asked for an interview with me for an article she was writing.
This interview with Simona opened my eyes and gave me the chance to reflect on who i was, who i am and who i want to be; as a person and artist.
I see the importance of humility in what i say, how i act, and what i do. there is no point when an artist can be content with what they do. There is always so much more to learn, more to explore, more to fail. For me; its encouraging.
As for Simona, it had been years since i last saw her. She interviews me with a confidence and a charm. She is beautiful; grown ready to share her passion and talent with the world.

Where did sexy go?
While on my colour high, watching Kung Fu Panda the other night has gotten me even more stoked about learning (more) about colout theory! That film was truley lush.
After doing this painting, im starting to see where i could hae improved my Pharrell attempt (...he looks too rubbery me thinks).
I'm gonna keep trying.

Hello...2008, the story thus far
Hi blogreader,
I thought i'd take the time out to share a little bit about whats been going on for myself so far in 2008.
So i've taken the gamble and travelled back to Vancouver after a great year in 2007; gamble as i only had a 1 month animation contract as a draw card.
I want to continue to grow as an artist, and as a person, and i thought the best way was to keep throwing myself at challenges and risks.
If you think there is something you would like to see on my blog, or things you could suggest about my art, please comment and construct!
A challenge that i have set for myself is to learn more about colour and painting. There seems to be a recent influx of great colour and painterly work that has just blown me away. And i've been listening to some very inspiring youtube tutorials by digital painters Bobby Chiu and Joe Bluhm.
I recomend for any artist to watch or atleast listen to this particular video by Bobby (aprx. 40min!) He talks about finding and rekindling that passion for art.

Hope we continue to inspire each other friend!

More Sneaker Stuff: Mooks Art Comp' (Sneakers)
'Mooks and Monster Children have teamed up to give promising artists everywhere this amazing opportunity have works displayed in Mooks Stores and score a two week exhibition at the Monster Children Gallery. '
The theme this month was 'Sneakers'. My piece is a take on the scene in Mission Impossible when Cruise was sneaking into that lab. Geddit? SNEAKING, SNEAKERS...SNEAKING SNEAKER? Yeah...well, that's pretty much it.
Also, the shoe that i chose to use in the image is the NIKE AIR MAX 90 'INFRA RED'. So i thought it would be cool to have some security radar beems added for effect.
Have to wait and see how my entry goes.
